Use this simple library of symbols to create consistent documentation of your business processes. With uniform workflow survey definitions, work steps and symbols, standardization opportunities become more apparent. Best practices and improvements are more easily identifialble.

 
  • Class I

    Class I Improvements

    Require no change to technology, products, services, business/distribution strategies, nor physical infrastructure.

  • Class II

    Class II Improvements

    Require change to one or more of the following: technology, products, services, business/distribution strategies, physical infrastructure.

  • Best Practice

    Best Practices

    (Leading Practices) are text descriptions of work routines that can be adopted to deliver improved efficiency, higher customer satisfaction, reduced waste, shortened cycle time and numerous other benefits.

  • KVI

    KVIs

    (Key Volume Indicators) are quantitative measures of business operations. These can be used to measure unit costs, track performance against service level agreements, conduct external benchmarking and achieve other management objectives.

  • Sticky Notes

    Sticky Notes

    Often begin as ad hoc notes posted on business process maps during validation reviews. These typically anonymous and confidential comments provide additional detail and improvements.

  • Activities

    Activities

    Represent separate and distinct work tasks that can easily be observed and recognized by workers. Activity duration should be brief to enable detailed workflow survey and analysis (typically less than 10 minutes in duration).

  • Class I

    Low Values Activities

    Are frequently targeted for reduction or elimination. Such activities often include rework, error correction, process intervention, internal coordination and others.

  • Decision Points

    Decision Points

    Result in categorization, evaluation and possibly redirection of the work product. Examples: checking for accuracy, release for shipment, payment hold, and others.

  • System Icons

    Systems Icons

    Document points where human work tasks and operational activities intersect with major information technology applications. May represent both existing technology as well as technology that is currently being deployed.

  • Clouds

    Clouds

    Are convenient methods to indicate inbound or outbound work product which flows to, or from an operational area that falls outside the scope of the business process map or workflow survey.
